As you’re planning your wedding, you’re sure to have a lot of ideas about how you want the photo session to go. You’re probably already brainstorming locations, poses, timing, and different combinations of people you want to capture.
Don’t be shy when it comes to communicating exactly what you want in your wedding photos to your photographer. But don’t forget that they’re the experts, so there are a few things they’re going to want you to keep in mind as well!
1.) Stay true to yourselves.
The best wedding photos always reflect the styles, tastes, and personalities of the couple. You may feel compelled to stick to the more traditional shots, but don’t do it just because you think you have to! This day is about you and your partner.
Do as many standard poses and locations as you want, but don’t be afraid to get creative and make it personal. Use your wedding photos to tell your own love story—and your photographer to help you write it!
2.) Be open to suggestions.
You hired your wedding photographer for a reason. Take advantage of their extensive experience and superior skill by listening to their insights.
Your photographer knows what looks good on camera and has a pretty good sense of what you’re going to like. They know the moments you’ll want to capture the most, because they’ve seen them time and time again. Give them the freedom to be creative and watch your wedding photos turn into a work of art!
3.) Consider an “unplugged” ceremony.
In the age of modern technology, everybody always seems to have a decent-quality camera in their pocket. When it comes to your wedding ceremony though, those devices can ruin a lot of the professional shots you’re paying to have done!
Ask your guests to refrain from using personal cameras, smartphones, tablets, etc. to guarantee your wedding pictures are not disturbed by their presence. This will create a better experience for everyone anyway, allowing them to simply enjoy these special moments with you.
4.) Focus on the day—not the photos.
Worrying about your pictures while they’re happening is only going to make them turn out worse! You don’t want the emotion dominating your wedding album to be anxiety and insecurity. The best photos come from pure, authentic emotion and moments that play out naturally.
Sit down and talk to your photographer before the wedding to make sure you guys are on the same page. Then when the big day arrives, just focus on enjoying the experience and letting your photographer take care of the rest.
